I have been a member of Paperbackswap.com since 2006.  In that time I have received 32 books and I have sent 39 books to members.  With the arrival of e-readers people may thing paperbacks have fell by the wayside, but I think otherwise.

I received my Kindle for Mother's Day 2011.  In the year and a half I have had my e-reader I've probably read a total of 5 or 6 books on it.  I do, however, have a large amount of used paperback books that I've bought from used book sales and feel I need to read them before jumping into creating a digital library.  If I can borrow one of those titles from the public library I may choose to read it on my Kindle and then offer the book on Paperbackswap.   Other reasons people may still opt for a physical book is that it isn't offered in a digital format, they do not have the funds to invest in an e-reader or they are happy with holding a physical book in their hands.

Whatever your choice may be, I thought I would invite you to join me on Paperbackswap.com so that if you are interested in a book I have read and blogged about, then you could read the book by requesting it from me!

Trade Books for Free - PaperBack Swap.

Here is a little information from the site itself:

"We want you to know about PaperBackSwap, the biggest book-swapping site in America. If you're a reader, you know how books can accumulate after you have read them. They pile up and gather dust, and you know you won't read them again. You can try to sell them to used-book stores, but you won't get very much for them, even if they are in perfect condition. PaperBackSwap is a better way!

All you have to do is create an account for FREE, list your books that you are ready to share, and send them out to other members when they are requested. Yes, you pay the postage to send your books out (between 2 and 3 dollars for an average-sized book), BUT you get a Book Credit for sending each book (each Book Credit is good for one book - you can order from any member in the club), AND when you request books for yourself, the senders pay the postage to send those books to you.

It costs nothing to participate, except for postage - there are no membership fees. You even get 2 startup Book Credits free if you are the first account at your household - you can use those credits to order 2 books for yourself, right away!

Give your books a better life - no more languishing on dusty bookshelves! Find new readers for them and get new books for yourself. Send a book, get a book. It's easy and it's free!

You can even print the postage right onto the address label, and mail the book from your outgoing mailbox or any blue mailbox.

You have a good friend to let you in on this! If you do sign up, please click on this Paperbackswap picture: Trade Books for Free - PaperBack Swap.

If you use the link above to join and you become an active member, she will get a free Book Credit for referring you to the club!

A Cedar Cove Christmas (Cedar Cove, #8.5)A Cedar Cove Christmas by Debbie Macomber
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This is book 8.5 in Debbie Macomber's Cedar Cove series.  The story is reminiscent of the Nativity story.  There's a lot of play on names and significance similar to the Nativity story.  Mary Jo Wyse is pregnant with David Rhodes' baby and travels to Cedar Cove hoping that he is visiting with his family for the holidays like he told her.  Of course, again, he has lied to her.  After Mary Jo's brothers find out she has left Seattle for Cedar Cove, they set out to find her and want to give David Rhodes a piece of their mind!

I don't want to give too much more away, but the rest of the story follows along with the Nativity story, but in a more contemporary way.
Although this book was a very quick read, it was quite predictable.  A nice story to relax and read around the holidays.

8 Sandpiper Way (Cedar Cove, #8)8 Sandpiper Way by Debbie Macomber
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is the 8th book in the Cedar Cove series.  This book continues the stories of Dave and Emily Fleming, Christie Miller, James Wilbur, Olivia Lockhart Griffin, Troy Davis, Faith Beckwith, Shaw Wilson and Tanni Bliss.

Emily Fleming has found diamond earrings in her husband's suit coat pocket and knows they don't have the funds to afford jewelry of this nature.  She originally believes her husband is having an affair.

Christie Miller is falling for James Wilbur and he may be falling for her as well.

Olivia Griffin Lockhart is recovering from surgery and will be starting chemotherapy after Christmas.

Troy Davis has broken off his relationship with his former high school girlfriend, Faith Beckwith, because he thinks his daughter Megan would not approve of him dating so soon after his wife's (her mother's death).  Little does he know that Megan has become quite fond of Faith.

Shaw Wilson shows Tanni Bliss his artwork and she takes some of his work to her mother, a local fabric artist, to get her opinion on his work.

As usual, I love how there are so many on-going stories in this series and how they continue in each book.  The next book in this series is 'A Cedar Cove Christmas'.

Hi all!  It is a busy time of year around our house.  My husband and I just had our 14th wedding anniversary.  He bought me a dozen log-stemmed light pink roses.  They were beautiful, but now they are all droopy and headed for the trash.  We haven't had the time to go out to dinner, but hopefully soon.

I am in the midst of helping plan Kaye's Kindergarten Halloween party and her 6th birthday party.  I borrowed this book from the public library "A Halloween Cookbook' by Sarah L. Schuette , because it had an interesting recipe for 'Jack-o'-Lantern Juice  (found at the link above.)  I'm not sure how much kids would/would not like it, but I'd like to try it!  When I got to the back of the book their was this link to a site called FactHound.  ("Facthound offers a safe, fun way to find internet sites related to this book.  All of the sites on FactHound have been researched by our staff.)  Then it tells you to visit the site and type in this code: 9781429676199.  Once you type in the code you get about 3 matching websites and they recommend 4 other books.  Very cool for the kids in your life, so I thought I'd share this with you.

As for the parties, I am looking for non-messy crafts and any type of activity that will get out the kids energy.  This evening I am trying to gather my thoughts and then hopefully sometime this week I will get out to buy favors, order the cake for the party and hopefully find some gifts for my little one.  I'm not quite sure what I'm handing out for trick-or-treat yet, but I really don't want to by candy.  Maybe individually wrapped goldfish crackers, pretzels or popcorn.  So many things running through my mind right now and I'm just hoping it all comes together smoothly.

This evening Em is sleeping over her best friend's house and then tomorrow her friend & her Mom and Em and I are going to do some shopping at an outdoor mall.  The weather has finally turned fall-like (high today  was 54° F and tomorrow is supposed to be around 60° F.)  Anyhow, time to get moving on things.  Hope once all this comes together I will have more time to blog!

74 Seaside Avenue (Cedar Cove, #7)74 Seaside Avenue by Debbie Macomber
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The main storyline in book 7 of the Cedar Cove series is the threat towards Bobby Polgar and Teri Miller Polgar.  A Russian chess competitor to Bobby has threatened Bobby that if he doesn't throw a chess competition his wife may be in danger.

As usual there are side stories involving other Cedar Cover residents.
Bobby's driver James has a crush on and Terri's sister Christie, but she seems unhappy with this.

Grace Sherman Harding deals with her best friend Olivia Lockhart Griffin's brother moving to Cedar Cove.  Olivia is now dealing with a health concern which shakes her husband Jack Griffin who is a recovering alcoholic.

Linnette McAfee, daughter of Roy & Corrie McAfee leaves Cedar Cove after her breakup with Cal Washburn.

A few more side stories in this book, but I don't want to spoil it all!  Looking forward to finding out more about these characters in the next book in this series....8 Sandpiper Way!
