Happy Easter

Wishing all my followers a blessed day.

Busy day today with the dyeing of two dozen Easter eggs.
Here are some pics:
Kaye & Em before it got messy.
Yes, this year I had them wear rubber gloves because they were doing
 tie-dye eggs.
They also did regular 'ol painting of the eggs.

My girls always like to use crayons; the junkier and waxier, the better!
You've always gotta have a spotted egg in the bunch!

Only 2 casualties (cracked eggs) during the hard-boilign process.
Then 2 more casualties while painting.
Guess who'll be having egg-salad this week?

Sorry I've been MIA, but errands and housework have been at the top of the list the past few days.

My plan for Thursday was to acquire a birthday gift for Kaye's friend's party this Sunday, find some non-candy items for my daughter's Easter baskets and maybe find some Spring clothes for myself.

I stopped in Bed, Bath & Beyond first because there was an item there I wanted to get for one of our bathroom cabinets.  I didn't realize that the cabinet organizer I saw in the paper was actually two parts (one being $14.99 and the other being $19.99.)

The paper is a little crumpled up because I was ticked off that it wasn't a set!
I decided against it and went next door to Michael's Crafts.
I found a gift for Kaye's friend relatively quickly and then proceeded to get ideas for Easter basket gifts.  I bought some T-shirts and iron-on transfers, rubber stamps, plastic lanyard lace,  2 coloring books and flip flops for Kaye, bandanas, peds and thick crafting cord for Em.

This is Kaye's non-candy Easter basket goodies.

Here is Em's Easter basket goodies.

Then it was on to Kmart to look for something for me to wear.  I wasn't impressed with the selections in the dressier clothes area or the Juniors section (I was looking for Em) and everything I tried on was too tight.  This is when I started to get disgusted with myself and my weight.

After a long, cold, snowy winter where you are able to hide your body in sweatpants, sweatshirts, sweaters and over-sized clothing, suddenly it's Spring and slowly we are baring our legs, upper arms and there are less clothes to hide your imperfections.  And before you know it the dreaded swimsuit season will be upon us!

Its not like you don't know that you're overweight all winter long, it's just easier to hide.  Now I regret not getting my butt back on the elliptical and not watching what I eat more closely.  I have been down this road many, many, many, many times before.  You can read a more about the free site that I have used in the past here
I plan on getting more involved at this site again as well as the Facebook group
Just so you're aware, I will be blogging more about my ups and downs with trying to get fit.  For me it's not just about shedding the pounds, but also about self-esteem, energy, eating healthier and sleeping better.  I hope to incorporate new snack ideas, recipes and general tips about how I am going to reach my goals.

So after I got home from shopping I ate lunch and then had a terrible headache.  I picked the kids up from school, came home took medicine and laid down for an hour before I had to take my daughters to choir practice.  I headed to bed around 10pm because I was just exhausted.  Not sleeping well is catching up with me.

Friday was a bit of a more optimistic day.
My daughters performed in a Spring concert at their school and it was very uplifting.  I came home after the concert and began catching up with laundry.  It was a beautiful day, so I hung two loads and put one in the dryer.  I also changed out my closet from Winter to Spring clothes, which took me most of the afternoon.
After looking at what I have I know I need more workout pants and tops and new sneakers.  I could use more dress clothes, but would rather not spend the money on them until I lose more weight.  I most likely won't get to shop next week because I plan on getting my haircut and colored (carmelized for the very 1st time!) on Monday.  Tuesday afternoon Em is competing in her school spelling bee, so I will be at school for that.  Thursday and Friday my kids get out of school early for parent/teacher conferences.  So maybe Wednesday I could squeak in a trip somewhere to shop.

Friday evening I did some more blog hopping through UBP14 since it was the last day for that blog hop.  I hope to check out some of the other lists I missed in the coming weeks.   I also need to check out this blog hop that I am a part of:

Today is Saturday and I actually got a lot more done than I expected, which makes me feel happy, happy, happy!

I did a load of laundry and hung it out, put away lots of clothes from yesterday,  paid bills, cleaned out two flower beds in our backyard and added some outside decor.  Kay went to Home Depot with Jay in the morning and he bought some potting soil and grass seed for the backyard.  We're supposed to get a lot of rain this week and it's supposed to get below freezing at night this week, so we're waiting to put the seed down.

Tomorrow is Palm Sunday and Kaye has her friend's birthday party in the afternoon.  So my plan is to RELAX!

I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend and that all my new followers are enjoying my blog!

Happy Thursday to you all!

Yesterday Em finally went back to school after being sick since Sunday.
My day consisted of dishes, three loads of laundry, cleaning the bathrooms, paying a few bills and various other odds and ends.  Today there is more to be cleaned and organized, but because it's going to be a nice day I want to squeeze in a walk.  Hoping this happens because I've fallen out of the exercise/healthy eating routine and need to get my butt in gear!  It doesn't help that Easter is around the corner so there will be chocolate in the house;  my biggest weakness!

Yesterday was WordLess Wednesday and the photos I posted were
'Easter Loot.'  The items in the pics are what I've purchased for Easter baskets so far.  I usually try to buy more non-candy items because my younger daughter attends an egg hunt at church and gets plenty of candy from that and my parents give my kids Easter baskets as well.
For some odd reason my in-laws have never given my kids Easter baskets?  A few years they gave them like $5 each in an Easter card, but never anything Easter related.
I am always looking for more Easter ideas, so feel free to
(comment) on this post with your creative suggestions.
  ~Thanks in advance! ~

What do you remember most in your Easter basket(s) when you were a kid?

My sisters and I always got three baskets.  One from the Easter Bunny and one from each set of grandparents.  There was always a peanut butter egg or coconut egg in one of those baskets.  Reeses peanut butter eggs were my favorite.
The Easter Bunny also always brought us gum in a carton, but it was this          brand in a carton like this

My paternal grandparents always gave us these horrible red bunny lollipops.  They were red, looked like clear glass and appeared they would taste so yummy.  They were awful.  Not even sweet.  My Mom never had the heart to tell my grandmother we didn't like them, so we got them in our baskets every year and she'd throw them away.  If I ever locate a photo of these dreadful pops, I will be sure to post a photo!

Another item that was always in my paternal grandparents baskets were Easter Eggs that were either wrapped in a decorative foil or the plastic-sleeved decals that you dip in boiling water and the plastic conforms to the shape of the egg.

Anyone else remember these?

My Mom usually had us use these kits:

or just regular food coloring used with Q-tips.

I hope my readers that celebrate Easter had a wonderful day with family and friends.
Em woke me up at 7:40am and asked if she could go through her Easter basket.  I told her "sure", as I groggily woke up.  (This kid hasn't slept past 8am since she's had off from school last Thursday!  Funny, because I cannot pry her out of bed until around 8:15am on a school day!)  So Em proceeded to Kaye's room to wake her up.  I, of course, could not gall back to sleep.  So I watched them oogle over their Easter baskets for a bit and then I decided to fire up my laptop (which was returned to me all fixed yesterday----a registry error was the culprit and my hubby's co-worker backed all my files up, so I didn't lose anything but a lot of settings/programs I had installed.)  Then we had breakfast and started to get dressed for church, which started at 11am.  After church we headed back home for a bit then it was off to my parents house for dinner at 1pm.
The girls had a great time playing with their cousins and I enjoyed talking with my sisters, who I barely get to see.  We got home around 4:50pm and had a light dinner.  The kids were whooped!  Kaye fell asleep watching TV around 8:30pm and Em came to me at 9:30pm telling me she was ready for bed!  I'm tired, but I think I will do some reading before I turn in tonight.
Hopefully, I will be back to blog tomorrow and have more of my laptop back to the way it was!

Today is Good Friday and our tradition is to color our Easter eggs on this day. The weather was cool and breezy, but I decided to let the girls color the eggs outside. I had bought an egg coloring sand kit after Easter last year and figured this would be much less messy outdoors.  It turns out that the kit was basically the coloring tabs,3 little bags of sand (orange, blue and pink) and a small tube of clear glue.  The kids were excited about it, but lost interest after the first few.  They'd much rather color with crayon on the eggs and them dip them in the dyes.  Towards the end of coloring the eggs I sprinkled sand onto the wet dipped eggs and found that the sand stuck!  Not sure if it will still be stuck to the egg once it is dried, but it was less messy to just sprinkle it onto the egg in comparison to the glue.  Oh, and the reason the 2nd carton is missing 4 eggs is because they cracked when I boiled them this morning and we had egg salad with them for lunch!

Here is a link for everyone out there who will be dying eggs and trying to get the dye off of their hands!
