Book Review: Beaded Jewelry: Wirework Techniques

If you want to get started in making beaded jewelry, Beaded Jewelry: Wirework Techniques by Carson Eddy, Rachael Evans, Kate Feld is the book for you!

The first chapter goes through wire types and how to choose the correct wire for your specific project.

The kinds covered are flexible, hard, base metal, German wire, raw wire, craft wires and memory wires.

The second chapter gets into chain techniques. Materials, treatments and styles involved in using chainwork.

Chapter three is about findings: earrings, clasps and others.

Continuing onto chapter four where the tools of jewelry making are explored. From the different kinds of pliers (I had no clue there were various types of pliers) to cutters, wire shaping tools, measuring and polishing toold and storage containers to use for your beading materials.

The fifth chapter covers all of the different wire work techniques. Simple loop, Wire-Wrapped Loop, Wire-Wrapped-Bead Cap, Wire-Wrapped Link With Beads, Wire-Wrapped Link-Chain, Briolette Wrap, Covering A Briolette, Making Basic Ear Wires, Making Head Pins and Eye Pins, Making Hoop Earrings, Working With Cones, Memory Wire Methods, Opening & Closing Jump Rings, Using Split Ring Pliers and Wire Cutter Usage.  Wow!  That's a lot of techniques!  Who knew?

There is a glossary of terms used throughout the book as well as an appendix listing types of metals.

The book is 84 pages packed with all the information you need to get started with techniques using wire for your beaded jewelry projects.

I would recommend this book to any adult looking for information on learning to do beaded jewelry with wirework techniques. There's a lot of information that younger readers may not be able to follow along to, so the age group I would recommend is ages 16 and up.
