I received this book in exchange
for an honest review from NetGalley.

The book begins by taking you back to when Ruby Jewell,
the book's main character, struggled with a deep depression
over the loss of her sister, Daisy.
The first thing I thought was 'this is going to be a very sad
and depressing book; I'm not sure how far I will continue on with it.'

The book continues with how on one early Spring day the leaves of ivy, the hydrangea bush, crocuses and many other flowers outside of Ruby's window, awaken her to begin to move out of her depressed state.  Ruby was a law student, but this particular  Spring day led her to a new business venture of becoming a florist.  As she tells people who ask about her business "The flowers saved me."

The book is filled with the expertise Ruby has gained about flowers and their healing powers.  She specifically chooses flowers by what type of 'healing' she believes each person needs in their life at that particular moment.  Whether it be cancer, a gift for an anniversary, wedding, ladies luncheon, birthday, funeral, etcetera.  Ruby is in tune with her customers in the small town of Creekside and she is in some ways a therapist to her customers.  She listens to them and decides which flowers would be best for their situation.

As the story progresses, you can see how much of a giver Ruby is.
To a fault, she is filling everyone else's life with happiness and forgetting about her own needs.  She's never fully healed from her sister's passing and is afraid to get close to anyone.

There are many characters in this book, from Nora and Jimmy, Ruby's assistant and the delivery man for the shop, Will, the boy who walks Ruby's beloved dog Clementine, John Cash, the new veterinarian in town and Captain Dan Miller, PhD, and the town astronaunt/Phd.  These are just a few of the many characters you will meet in this lovely book set in the town of Creekside.

I was pleasantly surprised by the reality of this story.
I'm not sure if all florists are as involved with their customers as Ruby is with. hers, but it was very nice to read about the connections she had with them and how caring and considerate she was towards them all.
The only part I could have done without was the in-depth descriptions of the flowers.  I personally didn't even know what half the flowers were that I was reading about.  I guess the author felt if you're a florist, and a passionate one at that, this is how you'd think about flowers while you're deciding what arrangement to create for the specific occasion.

This was the first book I read by Lynne Branard and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I was trying to think of what video to post for Memorial Day
on this Musical Monday.  The first video that came to mind was of Whitney Houston singing the national anthem.
"Among the annals of national anthems as a prelude to sporting events, few have topped the one delivered by Whitney Houston before Super Bowl XXV in 1991 in Tampa. Just a woman, her incredible voice and the bare minimum of extraneous notes. Her rendition came at a particularly patriotic time, just after the onset of the Persian Gulf War, and was released as a single. It was re-released after the September 11th terrorist attacks. Houston donated all proceeds to charity. She ranks among the best of all-time because of the circumstances and ... that voice.." ~ quote via YouTuber CavBuffalo Soldier (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_lCmBvYMRs)

I received this book in exchange for an honest review from

In Tammy L. Grace's debut novel called Finding Home, we are introduced to Sam Cooper who has recently divorced from her husband Marty after 25 years of marriage due to his unfaithfulness. Sam decides she needs a fresh start away from the home in Seattle where they resided.

Along with her dog Zoe, she relocates to a community called Friday Harbor on San Juan Island where she owns a vacation home. She purchases a coffee shop/book store and hires Jeff, the local handyman, to update the shop.  They quickly become friends and Jeff introduces Sam to many of the locals on the island.

There are many charming characters throughout the book, young and old. You can't help but want to get to know everyone in this small, quaint town a bit more! It is a very sweet and inspiring read.

In the future, I hope to see a series of books focusing on the different shops, their owners, updates on characters in previous books and some of Sam's mouth-watering pie recipes! I hope that is what Ms. Grace has planned for her readers!

I would be remiss if I did not mention that this book reminds me of Debbie Macomber's 'Cedar Cove' series, which I loved!!!! If you're also a fan of that series I would suggest you read Finding Home by Tammy L. Grace.

Hello Everybody!
to another Musical Monday!
You may have noticed my blog posts have been
few and far between here of late.
The reason for that is all of my kids EOY (End-Of-Year)
activities, as well as a lot of house keeping responsibilities.

I thought this song was extremely fitting for today.
Enjoy this trip back to 1986!

It is the 100th birthday of Mother's Day today!

Anna Jarvis, the woman who was inspired by her own mother, yet never had her own children, organized the first Mother's Day observance in 1908.
She wanted the day to be about ones own mother and this is why it is Mother's Day vs. Mothers' Day;  singular vs. plural.
It wasn't until 1914 that President Woodrow Wilson declared the second Sunday in May as Mother's Day.
Anna Jarvis viewed this special day as an intimate time with ones mother and was not pleased when the holiday began to become commercialized with the giving of cards, flowers, and candy.  She fervently protested this commercialism, which very well could've made her rich, but instead she opposed it until her death in 1948.

Although Mother's Day is celebrated on different days throughout the world,
it is important to set aside some time on whatever specified date in your neck of the woods, for the woman who gave birth to you.
I hope you can enjoy some time with your mother today whether it be through a visit with her, Skyping online, a visit to he gravesite if she has passed on or a meaningful conversation over the phone.

The time has come for the All Around The Circle (AATC) Blog
to have its own FaceBook Fan Page
It's very exciting that more and more people are following the blog,
so it was an easy decision to create a page on FaceBook where fans can stay up-to-date with the blog there, as well as through their RSS feeds.

Above is the current timeline photo that I created.
As you can see, the photos includes items that currently make up the blog.
Writing, music, books/reading, comments, my avatar and the photos from the other two FaceBook groups I maintain.
When you visit the AATC FaceBook Page there is an RSS tab at the top of the page where you can read and link to the blog directly.  This will make it easy for readers to find what they're looking for more easily.
I hope this is helpful to my readers and that you continue to enjoy the content that I share!

WordLess WednesDay #12

Sunday ~ May 4, 2014

I had heard about Elin Hilderbrand's book signing through a friend's post on Facebook two days prior to the signing. Luckily, I didn't have anything planned for that afternoon, so I was excited I could attend.

I had been to this small, used book store for the first time a month prior.
I was extremely surprised they had such a big name author at their store because they hadn't been at this location for very long.

There were about 10 people there when I arrived, so I got in line and bought the book that she was signing. Elin had posted on her Facebook page that you could bring books with you for her to sign, but unfortunately I've only read one book by her and it was in e-book format.  (This is one time when buying books and having them on hand comes in handy....Author Book Signings!!!)  When it was my turn for her to sign my book I told her that I'd only read one of her books, 'The Blue Bistro' (read my review here) and that it was one of my favorite books. She said that book is definitely a favorite among all her readers. She then flipped to the page in the front of the book I purchased (Beautiful Day) and numbered her previous books in the order she recommends me to read them. I then had 3 photos taken with her, as her assistant said '3' is a good number to at least get one good shot.

This is the order Elin recommended I read her books
after I read Beautiful Day & The Matchmaker.

Here's my signed copy of Beautiful Day.

I sat down and waited as she continued to sign more books for her readers.
Two of the women waiting I knew from church and another woman I recognized because her son was in my daughter's Pre-K class and she is the author of the new book 'I Just Want To Be Alone' and blog owner of Keeper Of The Fruit Loops. At this point there were probably 30-40 people there. Not too bad, but as I said, I don't think a lot of people knew about this signing, so I felt overjoyed to have known about it at all!

Elin then read an excerpt from her forth-coming book, 'The MatchMaker.'
It was only three and a half pages that she read, but now I can't wait to read it!
She gave away one copy but I wasn't a winner,
which is okay because I have a lot of catching up to do on her books!

They allowed three questions from the audience.
Someone wanted to know where she got her inspiration from when she first started writing.  She said she was in Iowa, where she attended graduate school and started writing about Nantucket because she missed it. She says people who are from the area say that her writing truly makes you feel
like you are there.  Here is a nice article from 2011 where she describes missing Nantucket, how she still writes her books longhand in notebooks, and insight as to what her tenth novel, 'Silver Girl,' was based on.

Another audience question was about book ideas and if she sets the ideas aside while she is writing other books. Elin explained that she has books in mind when she signs a book deal.  Her current book deal is for four books, which she explained sometimes includes a short story, which in this book deal's case is the prequel to 'The MatchMaker.'   This short story is called 'The Tailgate' and will only be sold in e-book format for $1.99.
She said she will also have a Christmas book coming out.

They had a nice table with flavored seltzer water and baked goods, but I had eaten lunch before I left and really wasn't hungry.  It was a very nice turn out and not over crowded.  I imagine there were more people that stopped in the bookstore after I left.  If I had read more of her books I may have stayed longer, but since I consider myself a relatively new fan,
I didn't have a lot to chat about.
